Adam Bodqvist Scouting Report

By: Clare McManus

Drafted by the Blackhawks in the first round, 8th overall in 2018, Adam Boqvist has proven to be a great pick for the Blackhawks, and will surely help them in their future with their already deep pool of defensive prospects.

Boqvist, who currently plays for the London Knights of the OHL, is a highly skilled offensive defenseman. Considered one of the best skaters from the 2018 draft class, Boqvist is a highly mobile skater who has excellent speed and acceleration. He also has outstanding edgework abilities and can pivot from offense to defense smoothly and quickly. He’s quick at rushing the puck up the ice and can pinch the blueline and get back on defense fast.

Offensively, Boqvist is a huge threat on both sides of the puck. Almost every time he makes the right play. With his excellent vision and puck handling skills he walks the line well and is very patient with the puck. He can make tape to tape passes from almost anywhere while creating space for scoring opportunities for his teammates. He also has an outstanding shot and a quick release. Boqvist one-timers and slap shots are also very impressive from the point, as he can control them on keeping it low. Boqvist also likes to be the quarterback on the powerplay.

Defensively, Boqvist has an active stick and does well at creating turnovers. He maintains good gap control, and at times is not afraid to get physical. Most of Boqvist physical play is down low in the corners or in front of the net. He’s best defensive moments happen in the neutral zone, as it is harder to make plays. He uses his speed and hands to get out of the zone quick.

Adam Boqvist is the all package offensive defenseman that any team would love to have. Boqvist has been developing his two-way game and has gotten much stronger since the draft. Boqvist is for sure a future franchise defenseman and draws many comparisons to Erik Karlsso
