McMichael, who is currently playing for London Knights of the OHL, just came off a career year recording 36 goals and 36 assists for 76 points in 67 games played. During the OHL playoffs, McMichael also recorded 2 goals and 3 assists for 5 points in 11 games played. McMichael ranked second in points on the London Knights and was tied for twentieth in the OHL in goals scored.
Before the NHL Draft on June 21st, the NHL Central Scouting ranked McMichael 11th among North American skaters and 20th among forwards in the draft. This summer McMichael was invited to Team Canada’s 2019 National Junior Team Sport Chek Summer Development Camp on July 8 2019. The last time he laced up for Team Canada was the 2017 under-17 World Hockey Challenge, where he recorded 1 goal and three assists for 4 points in 6 games. The forward will most likely return to the London Knights for the 2019-20 season and continue his development in hopes of making Canada’s U20 team for the World Juniors.
The Capitals see a lot of potential in Connor McMichael. McMichael describes himself as a 200ft player who can work well offensively and defensively. He has a very high hockey IQ along with strong puck possession skills. He’s also strong in all three zones and is effective in the dirty areas. McMichael will need to become a bit stronger and also work on his consistency skills before cracking an NHL roster spot. McMichael is a potential top-six center who’s game resembles Auston Matthews.
