Anton Lundell is by far the best Finish prospect eligible for the 2020 draft. The past two years, Lundell has been playing for HIFK in Finland’s elite league, LIIGA. The league is one of the top professional hockey leagues outside of the NHL, but it doesn’t seem to bother Lundell, as he has put up incredible numbers for his age. His first season with the club he put up 19 points in 38 games(9 goals + 10 assists). He also averaged around 10 plus minutes a game, which is impressive in the European leagues for a young player. During the 2019/20 season, Lundell posted 28 points in 44 games(10 goals +18 assists). He has also won 2 gold World Juniors medals at the International level.

Lundell’s confidence level is very mature. He has a high hockey IQ and puts himself in a great position to score. This is very dangerous because Lundell has a wicked shot and quick release, and can score from multiple positions on the ice. Lundell has good vision and does well giving teammates opportunities for a goal. Lundell is a clean skater with long powerful strides. He is quick up ice and does well in tight areas. His speed comes from his knowledge of what will happen next; he thinks play before most players do on the ice.

Defensively, he is strong on the puck and does well closing the center of the ice. He is well positioned and works hard along the wall. He contains players and maintains good gap control, making it hard for the opposing players to make a play. While being center, he likes to support the play along the wall rather than battle in front.

Anton Lundell is a future 200-ft top-six center in the NHL. He has a lot of potential and he compares his game to Alexander Barkov or Pavel Datsyuk.
