An Interview With 2020 NHL Draft Prospect: Colby Ambrosio
The 2020 NHL Draft is only a few days away, so I thought it would be a cool idea to reach out to one of my favorite USHL prospects in the draft, Colby Ambrosio.
Ambrosio played this past season with the Tri-City Storm and managed to put up 26 goals and 24 assists for 50 total points in 48 games played. He also led the team in points. He will take his talents to Boston College this season.
Check out his Dobber Prospects Profile made by me!
“An undersized versatile forward with soft hands, a high motor, and an array of shots. Middle-six potential.“
When did you start playing hockey and who was your favorite player growing up?
I got on skates when I was about 2 years old. Favourite player growing up Mitch Marner, Sidney Crosby.
What do you like most about the position you play and what kind of playing style do you bring to a team?
The thing I like most about playing centre is being able to pick up speed below the wingers and being able to gain speed receiving the puck on a breakout. Think I’m an offensive threat at all times and very creative who can be relied on at the end of games in both ends of the ice.
Can you reflect on your season with the Tri-City Storm?
Obviously getting cut short wasn’t ideal, we had a good group and could’ve made a good run. From an individual standpoint I’d say I had a good year and I think the last games about 12 or so that we had left I could’ve continued to prove myself and play well. Never satisfied though, always areas for improvement.
Who were your best influences during the season? And has anyone given you special advice during your draft year?
My dad was a big influence, always hard on me which builds my competitive nature and want to win. Gave me tips throughout the year to stay calm and just play my game and not let any outside influences get in the way of my dreams.
During the long offseason due to covid 19, were you able to get in the ice at all and what did you focus on the most to improve your game?
I was able to get on the ice and workout. Being on the ice was a little different because we had to get dressed at home like the old days haha or get dressed in parking lot.
What made you choose Boston College and what are looking forward to most getting started with them?
I chose Boston College because of the people the organization it is surrounded by and because of the development. World class individuals that are involved in the program and the amount of guys they’ve developed to become NHL players shows how great the development is here and I’m glad that I can get to work and become a better player and person here. Looking forward for the season in general, we have a really good group of players this year and we can make a great run and win some hardware.
Thank you to Colby, I wish you best of luck in the Draft!
